The History of Beer e Shifa/ Aab e Shifa:

    Beer e Shifa is also known as Aab e Shifa. Simply beacuse Aab means water. The history of this Holy well dates back to 1400 years. This well was dug by the villagers to attain water for their daily needs. Some narrate that this well was dug for travellers so that they could fulfill their drinking needs.

    Yet, unfortunately, the water of the well turned not only to be salty, but also bitter. It was so unhealthy that people who would drink it out of extreme thirst would get ill. Even animals could not drink water. It slimy texture made it unsuitable for using water other than drinking such as washing and taking bath.

    However, a great incident made it miracalously sweet and healing.

    The Bir Al Shifa Well is known to be located in Madinah. It is however located at a nearby viallge of Madinah named Alya which is approximately 80 km from Madinah. It can take one hour to reach the place from Madinah.

    Turning Bitter Water into Tasty Healing Water: A Miraclous Story

    The Beer-e-Shifa’s water was salty and bitter. It was also unhealthy. There are two narrations of how the water of Beer al Shifa was turned into healing and sweet water. According to the narrations, the Holy Propeht PBUH was going through the well and felt thristy. He wished to drink water from the well, but people did not allow him to drink that water as it was bitter, piosnous and salty. Thus The Holy Prophet PBUH spat into the well, and decleared that the water of the well is not sweet and healthy for use. Since then, the holy saliva has turned the water sweet and healthy. People claim that it has healing powers and if someone is not well, drinking it provides immunity.

    Another narration is that the people came to the Holy Prophet PBUH and compalined about the bitter water of the well. They told that they wished if the water was sweet so that they could drink from it while travelling. So the Holy Prophet PBUH went to the well and spat in it. His blessed saliva turned the piosnous and bitter water into tasty and sweet water. Subhan Allah!

    Beer e Shifa is a Holy Well and Muslims going there should respect it. Since its water is sacred, these are the things to do at Beer e Shifa:

    • Always bring empty bottles to fill in. You should be able to store some water to bring back home! Also, dont throw bottles in the well, rather, there are motors and attached taps, use them!
    • You dont have to worry about your prayers. Their is a mosque nearby.
    • However, there is no washrooms or restrooms, so make sure to do wuddu beforehand.
    • Visit the field of badr!
    • Do not pollute
